Objective: To encourage participants to reflect on their day, identify positive moments, and share their experiences.
Materials:
- Large sheets of paper or flip charts
- Markers
Procedure:
1. Introduction
- Welcome and Set the Tone: Begin by welcoming participants and creating a relaxed atmosphere.
- Explain the Activity: Introduce the “Magical Camera” concept: Imagine a camera following them throughout the day, capturing the best moments.
2. Individual Reflection
- Silent Reflection: Ask participants to close their eyes and mentally review their day.
- Choose Three Moments: Instruct them to select the three most memorable or meaningful moments.
- Visualize: Encourage them to visualize each moment in detail.
- “Close your eyes. Imagine a camera, not just any camera, but a magical one. It followed you throughout your day, capturing the most precious moments, the ones that made you smile, laugh, or feel a sense of accomplishment.”
- “Now, close your eyes and let the images replay in your mind. Picture the three most memorable scenes. What were you doing? How did you feel? What made these moments special?”
- “When you’re ready, let’s share these stories together. As you speak later, paint a picture with your words, helping us visualize the scene. Let’s celebrate the magic that unfolded in your day. Now you can open your eyes”
3. Sharing
- Hand Signal: Explain that when participants are ready to share a story about one of their chosen moments, they should raise their hand.
- Facilitate Sharing: Call on participants who have raised their hands.
- Open-Ended Questions: Encourage them to share their stories by asking open-ended questions, such as:
- What was happening in that moment?
- How did you feel?
- What did you learn or realize?
- Why was this moment special to you?
4. Group Discussion
- Connect Themes: After several participants have shared, look for common themes or patterns in the stories.
- Facilitate Discussion: Encourage a group discussion based on these themes.
- What can we learn from these shared experiences?
- How can we apply these insights to our future?
5. Closure
- Summary: Recap the key points discussed during the debrief.
- Gratitude: Express gratitude for participants’ sharing and contributions.
- Encourage Reflection: Remind participants to continue reflecting on their experiences and finding positive moments in their daily lives.

- Create a Safe Space: Emphasize the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for sharing.
- Respect Privacy: Assure participants that their sharing will be treated with respect and confidentiality.
- Adapt to Group Dynamics: Be flexible and adjust the pace and content of the debrief to suit the group’s needs and interests.
- Use Visuals: Consider using a whiteboard or flip chart to capture key points or themes that emerge from the discussions.
By following these steps and creating a welcoming atmosphere, you can facilitate a meaningful and insightful debrief that helps participants connect with their experiences and learn from each other.
