ITINERARY

Highlights of East Java – 5 Days / 4 Nights

DAY 1 – YOGYAKARTA – JOMBANG (BY TRAIN) – TROWULAN – MALANG

MEALS [B|L]Yogyakarta – Jombang(250 km): 4 hours 30 minutes by train Jombang – Trowulan – Malang(95 km): 3 hoursEarly morning wakeup call at 05:30. A Breakfast box will be provided by your hotel (to be eaten on board the train).At 06:00 this morning you will be transferred to Yogyakarta Railway station for a scenic train ride to Jombang in East Java. Your guide will accompany you on the journey.Note:

  • Planned route is aboard Sancaka Pagi from Yogyakarta to Jombang, departing 06:45 and arriving 10:33. Schedule is subject to change without notice.
  • Full name and Passport details are required to book train ticket and must be provided at the time of reservation
  • The previous evening you need to bring down your main luggage to the reception before 22:00 with clear name identification. Main luggage will be transferred during the night with the driver and vehicle that will pick you up the next morning on arrival at Jombang Railway station in East Java.
  • It is advisable to bring a small bag with a change and toiletry and a jersey as air conditioner in the train can be quite chilly.

Travelling by train in Java is a wonderful opportunity to meet local people and is also the best way to enjoy the volcanic landscapes of Central and East Java.Upon arrival in Jombang, the local driver will be there with your luggage to greet you and continue to Trowulan, the site of the former capital of the Majapahit Kingdom who ruled the island of Java for centuries. Visit the archaeological museum and the temples of Candi Bajang Ratu and Candi Tikus.After the visit, continue the drive to Malang and check in at your hotel late in the afternoon.Dinner at leisureOvernight in Malang.

DAY 2 – MALANG CITY TOUR – PASURUAN – TOSARI OR NGADISARI

MEALS [B|L]Malang – Pasuruan – Puspo – Tosari(84 km): 3 hours Malang – Pasuruan – Sukapura – Ngadisari(140 km): 4 hours 30 minutesThis morning after breakfast and check out, your local tour guide and driver will pick you up for the start of your program.Take an orientation tour of Malang by becak, a local cyclo. The streets of Malang are filled with grand colonial-era buildings and you’ll cruise past historic sites, bird and flower markets and Chinese temple Eng An Kiong before finishing at the city Cathedral.Return to your hotel for refreshing and check out. Later on we continue the drive in the direction of Mt Bromo.On the way, stop for a visit of the charming Singosari Hindu temple dating back from the 13th century.Following your visit, continue through the very scenic road up to the Bromo-Tengger National Park.Upon arrival at hotel, check-in and rest up for the early excursion tomorrow.Overnight in Tosari or Ngadisari, depends on your choice of hotel.

DAY 3 – BROMO SUNRISE EXCURSION – KETAPANG OR IJEN

MEALS [B|L]Tosari – Puspo – Pasuruan – Ketapang(288 km): 9 hours Ngadisari – Sukapura – Ketapang(247 km): 8 hours Ketapang – Banyuwangi – Licin/Ijen(22 km): 45 minutesAwake early this morning well before dawn for a sunrise tour of Mt Bromo.You’ll travel by 4WD jeep to a viewing spot with stunning views of the Bromo volcano and surroundings. Watch the sun rise up from behind the volcano in Penanjakan.Continue by jeep down to the volcano caldera, often still covered by mist in the early morning. The mist, combined with the grey ashen-covered ground form to create an unusual atmosphere, often compared to the surface of the moon.A 20-minute ride on horseback will take you to a set of stairs which lead to the rim of the still-active Bromo crater.Note:

  • Please bring warm clothes for your sunrise excursion next morning in Bromo as the temperature is low and cold.
  • Weekend surcharge USD 10 per person will be applied for visit to Bromo.

Return by jeep to your hotel for breakfast and time to refresh before checking outAfterwards we set of on a long drive along the northern coast of Java towards its Eastern end with a late a late lunch being served in a local restaurant en route.Upon arrival late afternoon or early evening, check in at your selected hotel in Ketapang or Licin village near Ijen.Dinner is at leisure.Overnight in Ketapang or Ijen.   

DAY 4 – EXCURSION TO KAWAH IJEN – KETAPANG OR IJEN

MEALS [B]Ketapang – Banyuwangi – Paltuding Ijen base camp(38km): 1 hour 15 minutes Licin – Paltuding Ijen Base camp(22 km): 45 minutesAwake early again this morning for an excursion to Mount Ijen. Breakfast is served at the hotel before setting off by 4WD jeep.Reach the Paltuding the base camp of Kawah Ijen located at 1,850m. The trek to the top is 3 kilometres and follows a wide, packed dirt pathway for about 1 hour 30 minutes. At the top of Mount Ijen is a large crater lake surrounded by sulphur mines and during your walk, you will probably encounter men carrying loads of up to 70 kg, often barefooted, down the mountainside.Upon reaching the top (2,385m) there is time to enjoy the views of the crater lake which is 200 meters deep and contains about 36 million cubic meters of steaming, acidic water. Witness the agility and strength of the miners as they collect and carry the sulphur blocks up to the crater rim.Important notes:

  • Local authorities only allow watching the scenery from the rim of the crater – It is strictly forbidden to walk down to the lake shore due to very toxic fumes that are escaping from the lake. Only the sulphur porters are allowed to this area.
  • This trekking requires good physical condition as well as good walking shoes and some warm clothing because of the low morning temperatures.
  • Mount Ijen is an active volcano therefore access is subject to volcanic activity at the time of visit: an alternative program to Kaliklatak coffee and rubber plantation will be provided if the volcano is closed during your stay.
  • Weekend surcharge USD 5 per person will be applied for visit to Ijen.

DAY 5 – IJEN OR KETAPANG – KALIKLATAK – FERRY TO BALI – PEMUTERAN OR LOVINA BEACH

MEALS [B|L]Ketapang – Kaliklatak(15 km): 30 minutes Licin – Banyuwangi – Kaliklatak:(37 km) : 1 hour 15 minutes Ketapang – Gilimanuk(6 km): 30 minutes(by ferry) Gilimanuk – Pemuteran(32 km): 50 minutes Gilimanuk – Lovina(78km): 2 hoursToday after breakfast your tour guide and driver will pick you up for a visit to Kaliklatak plantation. This old (once Dutch colonial) plantation is set on a hill with beautiful vistas.You will learn everything about coffee, the plant and cultivation as well as the processing and of course taste the final product.Lunch will be served at the restaurant of the plantation.Return via the same route to Ketapang ferry terminal near Banyuwangi. Check in before crossing the Bali straits to the island of Bali by local ferry (45 minutes travel and please note that Bali is +1 hour ahead of Java).Upon arrival in Gilimanuk harbor on Bali’s Northwestern shores, you will continue by road to either Pemuteran or Lovina Beach in the Northern Coast of Bali. Drop off at your selected hotel in Pemuteran or Lovina Beach (Accommodation not included).

Notes

  • Our rates are nets and quoted in American dollars (USD), however some services (like transportation, guide fees, entrance fees, some activities,  meals, air tickets and train tickets and sometimes accommodations) are based on local prices in Indonesian Rupiah in (IDR). In the case of a major change in the exchange rate (5% or more) between the Indonesian Rupiah and the American dollar (USD), we reserve the right to correct our quotes to align our rates and revise the value of the American dollar (USD).
  • All rates are based on the current gasoline price. Should the gasoline price increase by more than 10% we would readjust transfer rates with a 30 days prior notice
  • All timings are approximate. As the world’s most populated island, travel times can vary greatly during Eid al Fitri holiday break and other National Public Holidays. 
  • All language guides other than English subject to availability during high season July-September.
