Conservation Program

In the end we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught.”  Baba Dioum, 1968

Our goal or Mission is to increase the environmental literacy and agency of communities distressed by environmental degradation through experiential education, sustainable livelihoods, and resource management.

Community Development

ID ADVENTURE goes by the motto, ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.’ We believe that communities distressed by environmental degradation can be their own saviors if given the chance. Our goal is to nurture their skills, capacities, and potential for sustainable resource use, and then leave them to it.

Ironically (given the saying above), many communities request assistance to transition away from fishing. With fish stocks at 10% of their 1960s level, alternative livelihoods have become very important in the Philippines, both for households’ economic prospects and for the recovery of overexploited coastal ecosystems.  Equally important is household-based financial management. Even low-income families can save money. ID ADVENTURE believes in community-based savings groups which provide loan assistance at affordable interest levels- and build a powerful sense of community and agency.

Experiential Education

Experiential Education means learning through first-hand experience.  It gets learners out of the classroom and into the world, engaging them physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Experiential Education has the power to transform. With proper facilitation, it can bring participants to a new level of awareness and care for themselves, their relationships toward others, and their impact on the environment.

Sustainable technologies

Sustainable technologies can reduce a household’s monetary requirements and environmental footprint at the same time. Small-scale solar power, rainwater catchment, composting, bio-digesters, and organic gardening are just a few of the technologies which can improve communities’ quality of life while preserving natural resources for future generations. We are committed to working side-by-side with sustainable technology providers to mobilize and train communities for successful implementation.
